About Claire Hart-Palumbo

I was born and raised in central Texas, in a town too small to have a Dairy Queen, which in Texas is pretty darn small. Neither of my parents graduated from high school, but my mother raised me to have a love of language, books, and movies. I went to college to become an Art and English major.  I ended up in Theatre quite by accident.

I taught public school for a year after graduating, left teaching and moved to Houston with my college roommate.  I finally found the courage to admit that what I really wanted was to become an actor.  So, I started working in little theatre, community theatre, and eventually professional theatre.  After studying at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, I finished my MFA at the University of Texas at Austin.  I spent over thirty years of my life as an actor, director, arts administrator, and teacher at the college level in Houston, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Moscow, Idaho.

Somewhere in there I was married for twenty years.

But the theatre, especially in a smaller market requires working multiple jobs at the same time to stay afloat. That same college roommate recruited me to be a professional technical writer and instructional designer for Fortune 100 companies. I’ve had a dual career in theater and writing for over twenty years.

Already working remotely when Covid hit in 2020, I decided to sell my Houston house. I moved back to the farm where I grew up, to renovate the 170-year-old farmhouse I had inherited. My love of history led me to become involved with a historical non-profit, where I am able to use my background in marketing and programming. I also began to focus more on my own writing.

For several years, I’ve been writing fiction and working with multiple writer’s groups to hone that part of my craft. My love of mysteries and humor brought me to experiment with writing cozy mysteries. My love of theater inspired me to write a novel set, not in a small town, but in the tightknit community of professional theater in Houston.

November 1, 2025 I signed a three-book deal with Sibylline Press to publish my first novel, Cue the Murder. It will be available as in e-book and paperback formats Fall of 2026. Stay tuned for a more specific release date.

    Hi Claire!
just learned where you are and what you’ve been doing for the last 25 years or so… thought I’d get in touch. I’m living in southern Oregon and trying to write plays … you’re looking great. Cheers,
    David
